Lay-By Policy

Last updated: May 2026

1. Introduction

This Lay-By Policy explains how lay-bys work at Cashzone Australia.

We aim to keep our lay-by process simple, fair and easy to understand.

This policy applies to approved lay-by arrangements made in-store and any future online lay-by services unless otherwise stated.

Your rights under Australian Consumer Law continue to apply.

2. Starting a Lay-By

A minimum deposit of 20% of the total purchase price is generally required to start a lay-by.

Lay-by availability may vary depending on the item, store location and stock availability.

Some items may not be eligible for lay-by.

3. Payments

Lay-by payments are generally made weekly or fortnightly unless another arrangement has been approved.

Customers are responsible for ensuring payments are made within the agreed timeframe.

Payment reminders may be provided where available, however customers remain responsible for monitoring their lay-by arrangement.

4. Standard Lay-By Period

Standard lay-by arrangements are generally limited to 6 weeks unless an Extended Lay-By Payment Arrangement has been approved.

Extended arrangements may not be available for all items.

5. Missed Payments & Inactive Lay-Bys

If payments are missed or a lay-by becomes inactive for an extended period, Cashzone Australia may contact the customer to discuss the arrangement.

Where a lay-by is cancelled due to non-payment or inactivity:

  • the goods may be returned to sale
  • a cancellation fee may apply
  • part of the deposit may be retained to cover reasonable administration or storage costs in accordance with applicable law

6. Customer Cancellations

Customers may request cancellation of a lay-by before completion.

Where a lay-by is cancelled by the customer:

  • a cancellation fee may apply
  • part of the deposit may be retained in line with the lay-by agreement and Australian Consumer Law

Any remaining balance owing after applicable fees may be refunded or credited where appropriate.

7. Collections

Lay-by items can only be collected once the full balance has been paid.

Customers may be asked to provide identification or proof of purchase when collecting items.

8. Changes to Lay-By Items

Lay-by items generally cannot be partially collected, split, transferred or exchanged without approval.

Any approved changes may require a new agreement or adjusted payment terms.

9. Exchanges, Returns & Warranty

Once a lay-by has been completed and collected, the purchase is covered by:

  • Australian Consumer Law
  • Cashzone Australia's Returns & Warranty Policy

Change-of-mind returns are generally not available unless required by law.

10. Australian Consumer Law

Nothing in this policy excludes, restricts or modifies any rights or remedies available under Australian Consumer Law.
